Influenced by Byron Bay’s culture, Mercato on Byron is a unique lifestyle complex, incorporating the latest in sustainable design and a sensuous mixture of sunlight, stone and timber.

Located in the heart of Byron Bay, the precinct features a full-line Woolworths supermarket, a nine-auditoria Palace Cinema and a variety of boutique retailers and specialist dining experiences.

The complex is an innovative, two-level building with basement car parking, and has achieved a 6-star Green Star Design that leads the way in Australia’s innovative development landscape.

The final brief for the shopping, dining and entertainment precinct was established following extensive on-site community consultation and council workshops to determine the need and public spaces that would be embraced by the local Byron community. The precinct thoughtfully caters to the community-based environment and re-imagines the retail experience.

In 2021, this flagship neighbourhood shopping centre, and the adjoining development site (offering a generous 1.1-hectare combined site) was sold to a family fund headed by the Mustaca & Pelligra Families with Fund Managers Jason Meares of Option Group and Chakyl Camal of Panthera Group. V Architecture is proud to have been engaged by the new owners to assist in the master planning of the next phase of this special development.
